Three kinds of protection

The list includes products that solve different parts of fraud prevention. Choose a category before comparing price.

01 / Identity

Recognize returners

Device and visitor IDs connect sessions, IP changes and account activity.

02 / Detection

Find account abuse

Risk scores and linked-account patterns help teams investigate suspicious users.

03 / Mitigation

Control bots

Edge, policy and challenge systems intervene when automated traffic is costly.

ShieldLabs brings these layers together: recognize returners, detect account abuse and assess bot, AI and network risk, with results in the dashboard, API and webhooks. Explore our Editor’s Choice →

Editor's Choice / ShieldLabs

Fraud detection and prevention.
From signals to action.

Our first-ranked tool brings identification, masking and automation signals, account-abuse detections and traffic-quality analytics together. The 9.7/10 score follows our 22-criterion editorial rubric.

Recognize returning actors

ShieldLabs uses device and visitor context to recognize repeat visits after cookie clearing, incognito use or an IP change, and detect linked users with different email addresses.

See through masking

Cross-checks 300+ signals across the device, browser, OS, IP and network. Named signals cover VPNs, proxies, Tor, Private Relay, anti-detect browsers, bots and browser automation.

Investigate account abuse

Ready detections cover multi-accounting, account sharing, impossible travel and account takeover. A 0–100 Risk Score, Trusted, Suspicious or Dangerous verdicts and the contributing signals explain risk across visitors, users, devices and IPs.

Keep the evidence in your workflow

Use the dashboard to investigate visits and connected accounts, or receive results through the API and webhooks. Traffic-quality views show risk by source, channel, referrer and UTM campaign.

Current device and network evidence adds context beyond aging IP blocklists. Ready-made detections connect repeated activity to the relevant visitor and account.

Questions / 05

FAQ

How should I choose a fraud detection tool?

Start with the abuse you need to catch, the surface you protect, and the decision your team must make. Shortlist tools that cover those needs, then compare detection yield, false positives, integration work and cost on the same traffic window.

Which tools are suited to native mobile apps?

Look for maintained iOS and Android SDKs, support for your cross-platform framework, and mobile-specific signals. Fingerprint, Incognia and SHIELD are useful starting points for a mobile-first evaluation; test current SDKs in your own app.

Are free tiers directly comparable?

No. A free identification allowance differs from a monthly quota. Vendors may count API calls, checks, events or seats, and a trial may expire after a fixed number of days. Normalize each offer to your expected traffic before comparing cost.

Do these products make decisions or just return signals?

Both models appear here. Some return a verdict or account-level detection; others return identifiers, scores or signals that your team must combine with rules. Ask for sample responses and test the operational work behind each option.

How do I evaluate false positives?

Track how many legitimate users are flagged during a representative test. Inspect which signals caused each flag and what recovery path is available. A lower false-positive rate can be more valuable than a slightly higher editorial score.

Can I test two vendors side by side?

Often yes for snippet- or SDK-based tools: collect results in parallel without enforcing either verdict. Edge and challenge products may need monitoring mode or a controlled rollout to avoid interfering with user sessions.

Which fraud tools have a low starting cost?

ShieldLabs starts with 5,000 free identifications and a 99 US dollar monthly Starter plan. Trueguard has a lower published monthly entry price, while Maskbreak includes 10,000 free visitor checks per month with paid plans from 29 euros, and Thumbmark has a low-cost API plan. These products meter different units and solve different parts of the problem, so compare a workload and required features before choosing.

Why is ShieldLabs our Editor's Choice?

It brings visitor and device recognition, network intelligence, named risk signals, ready account-abuse detections and traffic-quality analytics into one product. Its first-place 9.7/10 rating is our editorial judgment under the same 22-criterion rubric used for all 20 tools; it is not a measured detection-accuracy result.

Does ShieldLabs do more than detect VPNs and proxies?

Yes. It also detects bots and browser automation, scores visit risk from 0 to 100, and surfaces multi-accounting, account sharing, impossible travel and account takeover. The dashboard adds investigation and traffic-quality views, with results available through APIs and webhooks.

How does ShieldLabs assess VPN traffic?

ShieldLabs combines current device and network evidence with visitor and account context rather than relying on an IP blocklist alone. It delivers a risk score and Trusted, Suspicious or Dangerous verdicts, plus ready-made account-abuse detections. Corporate VPNs and privacy relays can serve legitimate customers; a VPN label alone does not establish abuse.

How do I claim the Protect Product editorial offer?

Register for ShieldLabs through our offer link with promo code ShieldLabs19. Eligible new accounts receive 50,000 extra identifications in addition to the standard 5,000, for 55,000 in total. Confirm the bonus in your ShieldLabs account after registration.
